Dr Maryam McMillan
FOUNDER & CLINICAL DIRECTOR
BSc (Hons) Pharmacology • BDS • MFGDP(UK)
Dr Maryam McMillan is the Founder and Clinical Director of Ambra Aesthetic Clinic in North Finchley and has practised facial aesthetics since 2005. With more than two decades of clinical experience, her work today focuses on skin health, regenerative aesthetics, facial rejuvenation and natural-looking outcomes.
Rather than approaching aesthetic medicine as a collection of individual procedures, Dr McMillan assesses the face and skin as a whole. Her philosophy is simple: Improve the skin. Respect the face. Treat only when treatment is appropriate.
Qualifications & Clinical Background
Dr McMillan graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology in 1997 before completing her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Sheffield in 2002. She subsequently achieved Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice – MFGDP(UK).
Her clinical background in pharmacology, dentistry, facial anatomy and aesthetic medicine informs the way she assesses both skin and facial ageing. Dr McMillan began practising facial aesthetics in 2005.
Founder of Ambra
Dr McMillan founded Ambra Aesthetic Clinic in 2021 with the aim of creating a clinic where treatment decisions were led by clinical judgement rather than trends.
Today, Ambra brings together advanced injectables, regenerative medicine, laser, plasma, ultrasound, radiofrequency, microneedling and medical-grade skin treatments. The breadth of technology available at Ambra means Dr McMillan does not have to make one treatment fit every patient.
A Skin-First Philosophy
For Dr McMillan, aesthetic treatment should not begin with: “Which injectable do you want?” It should begin with: “What is actually causing the change you are seeing?”
Lines may be caused predominantly by movement. A tired appearance may relate to skin quality rather than volume. Lower-face ageing may involve several elements including collagen loss, laxity and structural change. Pigmentation may represent sun damage, post-inflammatory pigmentation or melasma – conditions that require very different strategies.
Understanding the cause helps determine the treatment.
Regenerative Aesthetics
Dr McMillan has a particular interest in regenerative aesthetic medicine and treatments that encourage the skin to improve its own quality and structure. Her treatment planning may incorporate collagen biostimulation, regenerative injectables, polynucleotides, skin boosters and technologies that target collagen, texture and skin quality.
Injectables remain valuable tools, but they are not automatically the first or only solution.
Natural-Looking Results
Dr McMillan’s objective is not to create an obvious aesthetic “look”. The goal is for treatment to remain in proportion with the individual.
For some patients this means improving skin quality. For others it may mean replacing carefully selected volume, softening excessive muscular movement or stimulating collagen. And for some patients, it means recommending no treatment at all.
Faculty, Education & Industry Roles
Alongside clinical practice, Dr McMillan is involved in professional education within aesthetic medicine. She is a member of the Galderma GAIN Faculty, a Jalupro Key Opinion Leader and an Ellansé trainer, alongside her wider practitioner training and education work.
Her professional work includes teaching and discussion around treatment planning, injectable techniques, skin quality and regenerative aesthetics.
Recognition & Media
Dr McMillan and Ambra have received repeated recognition within the UK aesthetics industry. Ambra was a Best Clinic London finalist at the 2025 Aesthetics Awards and won Best Clinic – South of England at the Safety in Beauty Diamond Awards 2025.
Dr McMillan has also been recognised in the Tatler Beauty & Cosmetic Surgery Guide 2026 and participates in professional education, industry events and media discussions around aesthetic medicine and skin health.
Clinical Judgement Comes First
Dr McMillan believes one of the most important responsibilities of an aesthetic clinician is knowing when not to treat. If she believes a requested procedure is inappropriate, unnecessary or unlikely to deliver the desired outcome, she will explain why and may recommend an alternative – or no treatment.
